Why are my coil packs different?

whats the difference between the coil packs with 2 bolt holes and the packs with 1?
i have got a new engine and all the new coil packs are bolted on via 2 holes, yet my old packs from the old engine are bolted on by only 1 hole.
now my old engine is an import WRX EJ20 on a 93, they new one i have been told is another Import EJ20, out of an automatic (got torque convertor plate on it) and on a 95.
is it just a minor design change or have i been stung with a uk spec engine?
really need help here as the engine could be going back in today...

Define 'new engine'
Legacy engines would normally have 2 bolt holes ( M6 ), although this may have changed with later models. I can only verify that up to about 94, in either UK or Jap.
All impreza's I have seen, had had a single bolt ( M8 ) fixing for the coils.
Perhaps they have given you a Legacy engine.

so are there any major differences between an imprezza and legecy engine?
the engine was brought from a breakers with warranty (although they are becoming a pain in the ****). im doing the usual cambelt e.t.c and that all seams identical, but like i said there are many minor differences and i really dont wanna end up with a 210BHP engine instead of the 236 i should have...

It depends on the year, and model of car. The engine is only one part of what creates the power. If it runs fine, I wouldnt worry too much. It may well be a better engine than the one it replaces.
Of course they made a Legacy Turbo....If they hadnt there probably wouldnt have been an Impreza turbo.
