Ok, bought a private plate and have got my plates mae up with slightly different spacing

For example, say I bought ABC 123A and had the plates made up as A BC123A

How likely am I to get pulled for this, and what's the fine/points situation???

Cheers
Mike

(I was fine about getting the plates made, but my solicitor sister has thrown the car amongst the pigeons! Mare!)

£30 fine and a request to have it changed.

They are well up on it at the moment.

Even doing people for having a correct plate with a scooby emblem where the euro sign should be.

I think they are cracking down on number plate spacing/emblems etc due to the congestion charge - the cameras they use cant cope with "unusual" number plates.

I'll be bitter if I get pulled as I see heaps of BM's & mercs with mis spaced plates... wonder if they get pulled??

I once saw DDO 1G that was spaced D DO1G (the gap was huge!) It was an old boy - does he get pulled?

[Bitter mode off!!]

Keith Rip (former owner of Ripspeed) always used to have KPR 1P spaced as K.P. RIP (with the dots as well) on the back of his Merc SL. Bet he never got pulled

Some of our local fuzz enjoy giving out £30 tickets, I began to argue so he threatened me with court and a bigger fine, eat humble pie took the £30 ticket. I now have very legal number plates

The fine for dodgy plates whilst unwelcome isn't the killer fact, repeat offenders will have their car number plates confiscated and a Q-prefix plate will be permanently assigned to the vehicle.

And i know of not one occasion where a plate has been withdrawn.
?????
Its a threat- but never heard of it being used.

I dont care- i have a mis spaced on the front like this: A1AB C
And normal spacing: A1 ABC on the back.
Its on my bmw and touch wood not been pulled yet.

Used to get heaps of grief from the 5-0 for having it on the nova, but then it IS a nova

Try it and see - but i would reccomend only using it on the front.

£30 is hardly gonna break the bank.

incidentally- if you have no plate on the front they tell you to put it onbut dont (or cant??) fine you....if you have a misspaced but standard font and readable plate they fine you ? (based on personal experience btw)

wheres the logic in that??

I have M4 XW_ and have spaced it M4X W_. I got a letter from the Police as they have seen me driving around but decided to send a letter to explain the situation rather than pull me over and issue a fine. They also did this to my Mum regarding her plate.

I was quite grateful not to have been fined but am still driving around with the same plate. My dear mother was pulled over only last week and gave the policeman a bit of banter and he let her off without so much as an instruction to change it.

Good to know that all other crime is so under control that the police now have time to deal with this sort of stuff In my neck of the woods, the police are now allowed to be contracted out to businesses that want to use their services at commercial rates "Good morning, sir, your ticket this morning is sponsored by Tescos ...." I guess we must have too many police then ....

Why not just leave the fecking plate as it is?

Then you'd not waste police time with trivial stuff like them having to tell you what you already know??

I have not coloured my indicator bulbs blue because I know its illegal (and probably looks real stupid too). I'd rather just not waste their time, my time *and* my money by getting stopped and having to get it sorted after them giving me a fine and a bo11ocking.

Correctly-sized and coloured flamesuit on...

Suresh

Maybe we should all revert back to standardised number plates ..

that way we all get to save £30 in fines, and the DVLA get to lose £millions ..!!!
