Need some help on this one..

Have a STI4 thats developed a low frequency vibration at speed (90+)- thats like a low level thump thump thump. Definately happens only at high speed and is not related to engine speed. Get it regardless of whether the clutch is in or out and get it in neutral or in gear..

Had the clutch, front diff, centre diff, step-off gears and gearbox bearings replaced last sept due to a gearbox failure.. Everythings been fine until recently, the cars always been very smooth at speed... until now..

Might simply be a wheel out of balance..

Get the wheels balanced..

Cool

I`ll second the JGM`s thoughts on this.

Had a similar thing recently and turned out one of the weights had fallen off the inside of the wheel

Or you have stupidly been driving on UK 'roads'; I managed to buckle a wheel from trying to use one once.

OK...

I'll git on down to the local tyre cowboys and have all four checked out... Saying that I had all four wheels re-furb'd about a year ago - I wonder if one of them have gone out of shape ???

make sense ???

cheers for the feedback..

Nom might be right! When they spin the wheels up to balance them, check both sides of the rim.

Ah well, when it went down for the balancing it turned out that "someone" had lost the locking wheel nuts key.. So off to the local dealer to get the locking nuts taken off a replaced with standard nuts for the time being, should be getting the balancing check tommorrow..

Ok, this is the outcome

All four wheels were well out of balance, and three of them have a slight buckle.

So all have been balanced as best as and now the vibration is only just perceptible.. So onto the earch for a new set of wheels at some point... more expense !!!

Cheers

Well before it was a thump thump thump type vibration, now its a little gentle vibration that you can only just discern thru the other road/engine noise...
