anyone know why? it doesn't seem to have any problems (no strange sounds etc - just the boost only goes upto 0.6, and my UK turbo scoob can keep up )

There is a known problem with some of the early WRX's. Mine has it too. Not sure of the exact cause but they won't boost over 0.7 bar. Apparently an ECU swap is the only way to cure it.

Only ever run on Optimax ... had my boost gauge calibrated, so i know the values are kosher..
Was having loads of problems with apparent miss fire ...so went thru loads to sort it, and analyse ...hence the boost gauge purchase.
I do notice a dip in performance when using NUL ...certainly doesnt appear as smooth.

My boost used to vary loads for no reason, I did the ECU reset and now it holds a steady 0.8bar in every gear. Might be worth giving this a try, do a search on this site for full instructions.....mind your back though.!!

Either your Boost Control Solenoid is not fully functional or your actuator is very week or as mentioned above ECU fault.
Unless of course your Boost gauge is connected to the pipe leading to the actuator. If thats the case you are reading actuator pressure and NOT the actual Boost Pressure. Which is why it feels like it's going O.K

then should a my99 (236BHP at powerstation) uk scoob be able to keep up with it on WoT and even catch up (admittidly it pulls away from a standard MY97 UK)?
optimax supposidly, he just bought the car from an import company.. apart from that it seems fine. It just struck me as weird..

Snowcrash,
Take it to someone familar with Scoobs - it'll save time and money in the end. .6 bar sounds like a non-operational solenoid to me, but it could also be the gauge plumbing,

Personally I agree. As above. Check the fault codes and see if its in limp mode!!!
As another thought for you.
Does the turbo have any adjustment on the actuator (Eg. is the metal bar coming out the actuator threaded)#
Because on all the turbo's Ive seen the actuator is bolt on. Therefore can be replaced with a tuneable one.
I have a MY94 and I have no adjustment on the actuator. But my mate has a uk 99 and he has adjustment. His car had a knock and he took it to the dealers and there solution was to reduce boost by winding a few turns of the actuator.
Worth considering that yours may have been wound down!!!! for what ever reason.
So if this is the case you could wind it up and get some good boost!!!
