If it has the 90 degree entry into it, then it's most likely a nice td05. It should be written on the compressor housing too (you might need to remove heatshields?).

Should be a TD05 with a 90 degree entry if the car is a saloon. It it's a wagon it will be a TD04.
You should be able to see the plate with the marking by removing the pipework from the air filter.
90 degree entry means the compressor inlet port points upwards.
This is my 94 WRx wagon (with 90 degree entry). You can just make out the plate to the left of the inlet port below the wastegate actuator.

I was looking in the wrong place. The turbo has TD05 wrote on.
Why the difference in turbo between the saloon and wagon?
Anyone tell me anything about my turbo, spoolup rate? when you get max boost? max psi/bar? etc
any info gratefully recieved

Re. the spool point - fit a boost gauge and test it!
The td05 has a lot of potential (but it will require modifying to straight entry to get the best out of it) - but the rest of the motor will need work to realise it.
How far do you want to go? Best is to decide what power level you're aiming for. I'd recommend just plucking a number out of the sky - try and get passenger rides in cars at various states of tune to help you decide.

Im at around 300bhp now and would just like to get as much as possible out of the car without going into big money. Im running 1.2ish bar now and hit the fuel cut at about 1.4bar if im not carefull. If I mod the turbo, in the way described above. Will boost rise further and therefore hit fuel cut. If so is it worth me doing, for other purposes. Eg more faster spool up etc
And how much will it cost? Can it be DIY'ed
Many thanks Ronnie

Heat shield is already off. Ill go have a look. I was told the early impreza's had larger turbo's than the later models. What are the advantages/disadvantages of having the bigger turbo.
Dont understand what you mean by the 90 degree entry
But thanks for the reply
