THE CLUTCH ON MY MY99 IS NOT FAR FROM DYING. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS HOW HARD IT IS TO DO IT YOURSELF. I HAVE A DECENT MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE SO IT SHOULDN`T BE TOO MUCH OF A PROBLEM. ANYONE ON HERE DONE ONE???? DO I NEED ANY SPECIALIST TOOLS????
ALSO SHOULD I CONSIDER AN UPRATED UNIT AS THE CAR DOES GET "WELL USED"!!
ANY OPINIONS WOULD BE GREAT.... THE MORE POSITIVE THEY ARE THE CLOSER I`LL GET TO MY TROLLEY JACKS!!
CHEERS PEOPLE.

I read previous threads about this and you need to be realy good to do this, Subaru charge about £800 it's a full day with engine out etc, well that's what they told me. Power Engineering in Uxbridge do it for half the price. I'd shop round but don't go down to your local Mr Clutch !!! I would attempt it if your onl used to doing normal maintenance work on your car. Good luck !

1) defintately replace it with an uprated one, and IMHO there's none better for power, ease of use and price than the one supplied by Lateral Performance e-mail mark@lateralperformance.co.uk for info
2) As the gearbox needs to come out to do this you need to get the car off the ground as high as possible, I've taken the gearbox off mine with the car on Axle stands as high as they go and could just do it...if you can get access to some ramps then do it.
3) The only special tool you'll need is a good clutch alignment tool...using a long socket like you cna on an old Mini or an Escort won't work!
Had my last clutch fitted with a lightened flywheel for 200 quid though, really didn't feel like spending the best part of 2 days of my own time (couple of hours with ramps, the right tools and a spare pair of hands!) only to find that I'd set it up wrong or something.

THANKS.
ITS ALL MONEY AT THE MOMENT AND I`M AFTER SAVING IT WHEREVER I CAN.
MY KNOWLEDGE IS A BIT BETTER THAN JUST GENERAL TINKERING THOUGH SO I`M STILL CONSIDERING IT. HAVE ALL THE EQUIPMENT FOR THE ENGINE TO COME OUT ETC IF THATS NEEDED.
I NEED A BIT MORE INFO. BEFORE I COMMIT TO ANYTHING THOUGH.....
