Scoobysport Exhaust Question
Hello folks,
Looking for a bit of advice here, I have just fitted a secondhand Scoobysport backbox on to my STi5 and am finding it a bit quieter than I expected (slightly deeper note than standard), what is the best centre section to fit and will this help get the "Note" I am after, i.e a deep rumble ??
Thanks in advance,
Kevin.

Some had baffles inserted to quieten them down a bit(special order,I had one)If you look inside and see some perforated stuff then it has been.I suppose this can be removed,if not a SS mid section should do the trick!
Kevy.
They all have a perforated core, which is the actual method of providing whatever silencing there is, however the modification that Deep Singh describes (which I also specified for mine) is a smaller perforation which I doubt you could see unless you compared 2 side by side. Mine has "smaller perf" hand written on the underside of the box so that might give you a clue?
One other thought is that the STi5 has a catted centre section which an earlier STi4 (my model) backwards did not and I don't know what you've been listening to for comparison. The catted section does provide a fair bit of silencing.
I would say you could listen to mine but I also have a SS downpipe now which is definitely louder/more burbly.

Neil,
STI-V Doesnt have a centre cat, it's just resonated...
Kevy,
You really need to change the std STI d/p and fit a Hayward and Scott or similar, then change your centre section to the H&S or original Scoobysport part, that will defo increase performance / sound, personally I dont like the SS exhaust note, its not burbly enough for me.

TB Meech. Sorry to contradict but it does, in fact late STi4s have them as well. I know this because I borrowed one from a friend (STi5) to get mine through its MOT!
Its a long debated issue but I am sure of this fact.
You can check to see if you have a CAT fitted by splitting the DP to CS joint and peering in with a torch. If you see a honeycomb pattern you have a CAT otherwise you will see straight through (like mine) although you will see it narrowing a little. The confusion comes from the fact that both units have the same housing.
A Scoobysport CS or Magnex will provide a full bore straight through which I am told gives a better flow, although a little more volume.

Neil,
Ok, if you say so mate, but when I took mine off (MY99 STI-V) and compared it to the same one off a Classic with ppp it was the same, you can see straight thru the centre section and there is no cat hence why the same centre and sti bb's are sold on by prodrive as part of the classic ppp upgrade.

My sti5 didnt have a cat in the centre section when i purchased it in 99, only had one in the downpipe which i ditched after about 4 weeks.
I would recommend getting the hayward & scott centre section (they made the original scoobysport exhausts) for a cheap exhaust upgrade, or to get a hks hiper mid + rear section if you want more power and more noise
