Question

I've just run im my 02 wrx sportswagon and on a private road I'd thought I'd see how fast she went. Seems to not want to rev past 6800 rpm in 4th and got to about 135 mph in 5th (eventally!) I gave up as I was running out of road. Seems to accelerate to 100 reasonably but then struggles. I'd have thought a car which is claimed to do 140 mph would show about 150 mph on the speedo? and accelerate up to 125-130 mph without too much of a problem.

Also if you throttle off and then dip the clutch quickly the revs seem to rise! is this normal? If you do a quick gear change on high revs you get a sort of surge making for a jolt when you let the clutch out....strange.

Subaru claim 215 ps at 5600 rpm. Looking at the dyno graphs for unmodified cars on power engineerings web site MY02 cars seem to produce more power and at higher revs. Have Subaru changed the spec?

Thanks in advance.

Wink

I would of thought that all subarus are good for 150mph. I have a few mates that have Uk Imprezas and they are getting 150. I know yours is a wagon but again my mate has one and his does 160mph (slightly tuned though and has a different gear box) the revs rising sounds normal unless there really rising. You always get them rising (only a little!!) because your releasing all the pressure of the gear box/engine when you depress the clutch. Dont know much else. Ive had 160mph but my car is a Mine's tuned WRX 300 bhp!! running 1.4 bar boost!
Hope this helps!! Anything else I can help you with drop me an e-mail

Regards Ronnie

They don't like sustained high speed, so watch it!
Also, the standard ECU had (classic shape) a soft boost cut - rather than a solid speed limiter - so the car gradually runs out of puff rather than hitting a brick wall. Modded ones running standard ECUs presumably muddle the sensors so can go over it (or the ECU doesn't have the boost control to cut!)
