Fizz - what differing responses? The up-pipe is a difficult job to do, but everyone I've spoken to says it is worth it. Better spool up, more power, and added safety. I say safety as there have been cases where cars - generally when running extra boost - have had the up-pipe cat disintegrate. Generally it just gums up the flow and ruins power, if you're unlucky, bits go through the turbo and wreck it.
Anyway, FWIW my MY02 has ported headers, up-pipe, APS sports cat exhaust, Samco intercooler hose and a Power Engineering ECUTEK & gives 280bhp+ from 5800 to 6800 revs (284 peak) and 260lbft+ from 2800 to 5300 (272lbft peak). Someone's PPP car on the same rollers gave 251bhp & 235lbft, with a narrower power band. I'm happy with that, but that's on a Euro import so warranty was much less of an issue.
Gareth - will be interested to see what your dyno figures come out as.

Junk the PPP is what I have been told.... It's only a piggy back chip in the ECU.. Been told that programmable is the only way ie. Motec, Link tek etc.....
You could try changing the centre section , down pipe and up-pipe (problems it you totally de-cat you need a CEL fix or you could get sports cat downpipe) that should see a useful increase but not train pulling...
I have all but the up/downpipe and am totally impressed at the lack of grunt, very smooth and quick with the ppp but not ar$e kicking!!! Can't afford to spend the money on a programmable ECU although I still have my original non PPP ecu I could get tek'd.

How helpful... suggest he didnt buy the PPP how useful!!!!
How much do you want to spend?
I'd go for a full Decat (up and downpipe) with the CEL light fix.
Good for 280 ish bhp.
Invalidates your warrenty though... which would be a shame seeing as you did indeed buy a warrenty friendly mod for your £1600 inc.
Go with the motec if you've got loadsa money. You might find a buyer for the PPP and put that towards the mods..

Lol, have you thought about a LPG conversion. Jza got one and they are warranty friendly
along with you PPP.....
I agree the PPP ecu is rubbish, so you'd be better off with a TEK remap or a Motec
Cheers Phill C
PS Sorry Jza, I couldn't resist it

Just added decat up and down pipes to my PPP'd MY01. Made a marked difference (though it's also gone bl00dy cold which helps).
Getting it dynoed on Wednesday...
Still losing sleep over loss of warranty though!

Well that's the only way to do it.. remember in theory if you go fully devat and you get pulled then you could be subject to an emmissions spot check!!! They like that around here!!! any how the PPP keeps you within warrenty (this isn't really a problem for me as I only paid 500 for mine
)
I would love to go fully decat but again had differing reponses about getting the up pipe done..
Ho hum... choices choices but what the hell. I have no more money to spend!!

Simon - I thought you already did, using an ECUTEK remap, but only available in the states?
IMHO you'd get a fair bit of custom with a similar setup here (say using a single sports cat in the downpipe like STi7 PPP and a suitable remap for ~275bhp or so). Whether it would be enough to justify your R&D costs, I couldn't guess.

Simon,
Perhaps it should be offered as a free upgrade for existing PPP customers
My point being that I knew my WRX would feel flat compared to my classic scoob (unmodified) so I spent a considerable sum on the PPP to redress the balance. Didn't work... so after a year of unexceptional ownership I've had to resort to extra cost and potential warranty issues, but the car finally feels sorted.
Cheers,
Gareth

A stage 2 PPP.
Now that sounds like a great idea. I'd defintately be up for it.
What could this techically involve ? A downpipe, a little more boost ?

yeah, my STi7 ppp is nice, but just not enough.
I wonder if Prodrive would care to comment on if perhaps there could be something in the pipeline ?

we need to hope that Mike from Prodrive reads this thread and perhaps gives us his opinion (on or off the record).
I'm sure a large percentage of PPP owners would be very happy to be able to purchase a stage 2...
