Has anyone had any problems with using a dump valve on an Impreza Turbo 2000 (specifically UK car 99 T)?

Just fitted a Forge to my MY00 UK spec. To be honest I've no frame of reference (not like I can compare with other DV's) but my crap gear changes under hard acceleration (Turbo lag) have disappeared. Much more enjoyable to drive. I get some funny noises under medium acceleration - sort of a half hearted whirring rather than the full 'pishhhhhhh'. Don't really know what characteristics I should be seeing/hearing but I've checked for air leaks (no hissing sounds) so assume it's OK.

no problems with my scoob, but when i had a collins one it made idling funny so just stick to ones you know, like bailey's or blitx etc.

Question

That sounds like it's not really a problem then.

It's hard to know for sure, though....

I've heard from a few other people that vent to atmosphere dump valves (which make the pssht noise) can cause running problems on Imprezas, as the ECU is expecting all the metered air to be present, but this isn't the case when some is vented to the atmosphere.

A few people have now told me that you can experience problems with the idling after coming to a stop, and also the car running very rich when you change gears/lift off (even more flames).

...hard to know for sure when you get different opinions from all-good sources of info.

...still don't know whether to get one fitted or not!!!

Fitted a forge VTA valve....... same experiences as everyone else. With a reputable manufacturer, there are no differences over the OE valve, except for increased efficiency (which i noticed immediately!). The forge valves aren't as loud and annoying as most boy racer types, but do make a hard driving session sound a little bit more dramatic!!

Good thing bout the DV is it took me less time to fit than my set of car mats ! If you don't get on with it then just swap it back with what you took off. Forge is one of the cheapest as well so no real harm to your wallet. I had same concerns re the results but glad I took the plunge and fitted one.

Hello,

Are there any differences in sound between the Forge and Bailey?

maybe movies, sound files?

With regards,

Hans

hans, the bailey valves seem to have a different sound to that of forge - i think the forge one is more refined and less obtrusive.
also, i was advised against a bailey as they can be known to jam. i have no evidence though, only hear say from the tuner who fitted it and was also happy to supply both. i think the bailey was more expensive through him, so i don't think he was bias, as he did not try to work the more expensive one into me - nonetheless i had a forge one fitted - most satisfactory!

weava
