Full Decat + Overboost???
#1
Not long finished the zorst mods - now running magnex bb & c/s, H&S dp.
Just read somewhere that a full decat zorst can bring on overboost problems... This true? Anyone wanna start the debate rolling?
Also, toying with fitting a Dawes Device - will this cure any potential problems and enhance performance (power/torque) in any way?
Sorry for being such a fickie - but I 'aint as clever as wot you lot is when it comes to scoobs!!!...
Any ridicule, constructive advice/comments greatly appreciated!

I fitted a full s/s without cats and it caused my95 to boost upto 14.5 psi and settled down to 11.5psi.
Fitted dawes boost controler and fuel cut raiser and now boosts at 16psi and never spikes.

So you've increased the boost pressure, does that mean you have better spool up time and/or more power available?
Is 14.5 or 11 psi a safe boost level? Come to think of it, is 16 psi a safe boost level?
This is all very confusing now it's getting technical - maybe I should have just stuck to changing the stereo and left it there? ;-p

If you look back a couple of days you will find a debate on boost which will answer or help on your question.
The general reply was 16.5 psi is a safe boost on a uk car but any more and might get early detonation which will kill your engine in seconds.
The more boost you have the faster the car so you can get carried away with turning up the controller.
Set to a resonable psi and you should be ok.

I would suggest increasing the restrictor hole size by 0.1mm to start or (better still) get a Dawes type valve. Increasing the hole size will bring the overboost level down but the held boost will be lower.
