Question

hi all, www.vividracing.com are supplying this "sti" scoop (approx 1" taller than standard with internal fin to direct flow) would it be of benefit to a stnadard MY00 that sees some traffic...

its available in glass fibre too...

Wink

hi John, im running an MY00 with standard boost i was hoping for a cheap fix for decreasing intake temps at lo speed ie: traffic... rather than uprating the intercooler, i know u had an uprated TMIC before... how did you find the results?

Cheers

john- i have an sti 6 intercooler on my MY95 WRX, the scoop on my bonnet is much smaller than even the post97 cars, im i right in thinking a taller scoop would help in the cooling department???

Not sure how much it will really help with traffic situations. If there's very little air flow how much will an extra 1" help? For general use I agree - the more (and hopefully well directed air) the better.

Of course it means that your cars cd is worse so your fuel consumption will worsenby 150%.

I think the bonnet scoob is the biggest mistake subaru made! A while ago i was toying with CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) programme called Ansys and i tested a rough model of a subaru bonnet with the scoop. At low speeds air enters the scoop and makes contact with most of the intercooler. As speed increases the wind only makes contact with a small area nearer the back of the i/c thus making very in-efficient. A very good way of making the intercooler and bonnet vent more efficient is to fit an air deflector on the vent in order to distribute the incoming air evenly. This part has already been manufactured in japan and is readilly available.

Cheers

You may find that the larger airscoop does very little in terms of redirecting airflow if it's not been properly designed.

I was investigating fitting an STI-v7 scoop on a MY00, however the way the scoop is designed the airflow will not hit the TMIC in the same way as the standard scoop.

BladeRunner (Michael Ferries) does a splitter as mentioned above and it has a few benefits, but like John said, if you're not moving then nothing will help.

And yes, it is the biggest mistake Subaru made. Just look at the Evo, Mitsibushi got it right.
