I see lots of people who have reset their ECU and get some good results. I'm just wondering about my relatively new MY02.
The car has done 4.5k miles now so should be loosened up more. I'm driving it harder and have a lot better discipline filling it with Optimax (although I've had to use the odd SUL tank and even a Fina standard UL once when I was desperate).
So the question is should I go for an ECU reset or is it not going to make much of a difference?

Your ECU increases or retards ignition timing according to the RON almost instantly, you don't need to reset the ECU if you put lower grade fuel in a few tanks back, its forgotten about it already
Older cars may need a reset but yours doesn't. Some ECU's take an average of the fuel, some just set to the lowest grade its seen (and I have one of those ).

So newer cars (any idea what year?) had a change to their ECU so that it follows the fuel put in?
PS I could ask you by phone, but I thought it more interesting carrying it on via the boards to give others the info.

Off the top of my head I think it goes
MY01>02 same ECU realtime adaption to fuel
MY99>00 different ECU's but as far as fuel is concerned realtime adaption
MY 97>98 ECU takes an average of the fuel put in over time - best to reset if you had a low grade top up
pre MY97 ECU stays set to the lowest grade fuel its seen - deffo reset regularly IMO
If anyone knows any different feel free to correct me
Oh and get your post count up, young pup
