Where are the Cats on an MY02??
#1
OK folks I hear you all talking about uppipes/downpipes and centre sections..... where do the cats live on an MY02? I would like to lose one-cat but not from the downpipe as I believe that it is too much of a mither. What is the easiest thing to do to gain a few more gee-gee's yet still maintain correct UK emissions and warranty. This is a common question I know but if some kind person could point out exactly where all the cats are then that would be great.

Hi Russ
There are 3 cats on a 2002 WRX.
One in the up pipe (before the turbo), one in the downpipe and one in the forward of the two centre sections.
The car will still pass emissions on just the up pipe cat.
Changing the downpipe will make the biggest improvement. Changing the centre section cat will give the least improvement.

Russ,
I've just fitted (Friday)a full Scoobysport system apart from the up-pipe om my MY01 and the car sounds amazing and pulls all the way up the rev range, the best peformance mod you can do imho.
Get it done you know it makes sense.

Pete,
Thanks for the info. De-catting the centre will give the least performance gains however I am assuming that it WILL be better than not-having it done? If you get my drift. For example the PPP upgade involves changing de-catting the centre and a new BB?

Agree with Zippy - it transforms the car. More so than the old one. I've got the same setup as Zippy - it sounds lovely and pulls like a train throughout the rev range
Chris
Bought new, the downpipe, both centre sections and a backbox will cost around £900 fully fitted incl VAT.

Russ, you should be able to see (And come for a spin if you want!) both mine and Zippys cars on Thursday night
The only hassle you've got with the downpipe is the CEL (Check engine light) illuminating. This can be fixed by a "black box" type device which connects into the ECU.Scoobysport sell em!!!
Good performance increase for not much hassle in my opinion
Cheers
