Hello

My Euro import MY00 turbo is now nearing the end of the third Party warrenty that it had when I purchsed it. During this period it had to be serviced by a Subaru Main dealer. I just had it serviced yesterday and the next service is due after the warrenty has expired.
So my question is, should I still have it serviced by a main dealer or should I use a specialist. I realise that a specialist might give a better service and for less money but when I come to sell the car will it effect its value if it hasn't been dealer serviced?

Next question.
The dealer uses Esso 5W/40 fully synth oil. When I give it a "between services" oil change should I use the same type of oil or change? I know many of you recommend Mobil 15/50 but what about something like Castrol Magnatec? Can I use a semi-synth after the car has been running on fully synth since it first service?

Thanks
Steve

i'll be in exactly the same situation as yourslef within a few months...

i plan to go to the main dealer for servicing, but other places for parts (scoobysport and the like). That way, when I sell it, it will have the main dealer stamps all over the service book.

Yes you can go for semi synth after running your car on fully synth but id say stick with the fully synth oil as its better quality.
Most people would stick with one of the following oils that if you give your dealer, should be happy to put into your car

Mobil1 Motorsport 15w50
Castrol Magnatex 10w60
Motul 15w50

Basically these oils are all good even though some rate the Motul the highest, for normal use and even track use they should all be sufficient

Once the warranty was up on my Euro import MY00, I went to Subaru4you at Theale (-just down the road from you!). Quite a bit cheaper than the main dealers, and they do an excellent job. They only use proper Subaru bits, and in fact Len used to work at the main dealer in Reading.

I use Motul 15/50 oil (and change it every 3500 miles), and it actually costs me less than the Esso 5/40 stuff did at Lancasters!

Thanks for your replys.

PeteC, Lancasters is the garage that I have used for the servicing.
After all the posts on here about oils I thought that the 5/40 oil they use is a bit thin.
I take it you recommend the guys a Subaru4you?
Do you supply the oil or do they?
Do they stamp the service book?

Regards
Steve

Steve,

I used Lancaster's for the first year or so - no complaints, except that they are on the expensive side.

I would certainly recommend Subaru4you based on my own experience. I think quite a few people in the area on this list use them, and I've never seen anything but praise.

They can supply their own oil - I've got a feeling that Len may use Shell as standard, but I'm not certain about that - but if you want a specialist oil such as the Motul, then you'll need to supply it youself. Demon Tweeks and Scoobymania both stock Motul, and there's also a place a couple of of miles or so from Theale, at Beech Hill (off the Swallowfield bypass) which keeps it ( - it's a small garage which specialises in doing up old MG's).

And yes, Len will stamp your service book.

Pete

Another thumbs-up for subaru-4-you from me too! And I struggle all the way there from London...
Great that you can see what they're doing and ask them what they're up to as well.
