If an STi 5/6/P1 or UK MY99/00 then don't bother. Same with the new age cars. For 98 or earlier cars reset.

Decat can feel slower since the boost can come in earlier. A sudden hit of boost 500 RPM higher always feels more dramatic than as much as possible as early as possible.

With engine at operating temperature, turn engine off. Locate the two ECU check connectors, under the steering column and consist of a black plastic male and female connector, and a green male female connector. Sometimes they are still taped over with some small amount of plastic tape.
With the ignition OFF connect black to black and green to green.
Turn on ignition, do not start the engine, depress the accelerator pedal to full throttle and hold for a few seconds, and then release.
Start engine and then drive for at least one minute, keeping road speed above 7 mph.
ECU is now re-set.
At this point the check engine light should start to flash the all clear signal (steady 1/2 second interval flashes). If the check engine light does not flash, or indicates some other sequence, there is a fault present in the system.
Once, stop the car and turn off the engine.
Disconnect the plugs.

Wonder if this could be related to the problems im having! See my thread about juddery boost... Ive a uk my98. Anyone? Is there an ecu reset for mine? Ill have look for the cables but wont do anything yet if i find any (but i seem to remember reading somewhere the resets are only on imports??)

Could anything bad happen by resetting?

cheers

Omen,

Be careful - in the unlikely event your car is detting and backing off the ignition to protect damage, resetting ecu will cause it to 'forget' all previous problems and start fresh. This *could* be dangerous (the ecu actually learns where det has occured previously and retards around it as much as poss...until the reset)

Still worth a try - if it seems to fix it for a short while but the problem comes back, then at least you know you've an issue somewhere....

No [major] harm in resetting it, I do mine about once every 6 months and it seems to run a bit smoother afterwards.
