Question

Anyone know what the cylindrical control valve (or sensor) in front of the brake reservoir is or does ?

Approx 35MM in diameter and 40mm long
has two 'brake pipe' type pipe going into it from the bulkhead direction, but doesn't? seem related to the braking system ?
(originally thought it was a brake light pressure sensor)

Its on the wrong side to be fuel pipe / fuel system related

You can see it in the underbody diagram posted by ozzy in the following turbo wastegate actuator thread
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?ThreadID=116155&Page=1
It's right under the white text box that says "Connector Rod"

Stephen
Just interested

Update
Looks like it is the P.C.V assembly (whatever that is) and is part of the braking system

Pressure Control Valve maybe ?
But what does it do ?
And why does it need to be 'electrically' operated
(under ECU control??)

PS I've got ABS, but that has its own big control block
But guess it could be part of it

Yet another update / correction

It does actually have 4 pipes going to it, but only the top two are obvious
Does seem to be brake system related

Possbly a pressure control valve for the rear brakes, to reduce brake pressure to them under heavy braking to prevent them locking up ??
But normally such valves are mechanically operated and sititauted near the rear axle
Supposed the Subaru one could be electrically operated from the abs system.
But with ABS, it does the pressure relief automatically, so what I've just written is a load of b*****ks

It sounds like you are refering to the brake pressure proportioning valve.
