odometer adjusting
#1
just bought an imported my94 wrx sti (number 25/100). the speedo conversion has been done so that it reads and measures distance in miles. the odometer still has the old km figure on it though. anyone know how to change this back to the miles figure or know anyone who does it. i have a letter from the garage i purchased it from saying the reading in kms when sold to me but i would still like it converted across.
thanks.
thanks.

Hi,
don't think this is usually done...what happens is you have to adjust the figure on the odometer to represent the true mileage...
an example.
I bought my car with 18000km on it, which is approx 11000miles (to
make the calculation easy).
Then it is converted to mph etc. So from this point on any new mileage added is in miles. The difference between the 2 figures is
18000 - 11000 = 7000. Therefore to get the total distance the car has done IN MILES you do CURRENT ODOMETER READING minus 7000.
e.g odometer at 25500 -> mileage = 25500 - 7000 = 18500.
( this is because the car has done 11000 miles + (25500 - 18000 miles) = 18500.
Hope this helps.
Matt.
p.s my car has not had the odometer changed (clocked back) and I think most people would agree that it is better to just do the calculation above. I have a certificate from the people I bought mine off with all the figures on and stating the number to take off from the odometer reading to obtain the true mileage figure.

thanks for the reply. i wasnt sure if most people had their cars wound back so that the figure represented on the speedo was accurate or whether most left it as it was and just made a mental adjustment. i thought it would seem better to adjust it but then you are opening yourself up to all sorts of questions i guess.
thanks again.
thanks again.
