Default JDM Turbo Forester 19MPG average is this normal or do I need to look into it?

I'm averaging 19MPG on my JDM 2008 Turbo Forester it has the EJ205 engine and around 60000 miles.....it seems a bit low, is this normal or should I look into it. There is also a noticeable smell of petrol coming out the exhausts at startup ? I'm using 99 octane fuel and I've done less than 2000 miles since it arrived from Japan It has new spark-plugs and a new MAF sensor new airfilter and engine oil was changed when it arrived before the initial MOT...it's automatic with SI-drive so Sport mode is always on...

Is that town driving and short trips?
What's your driving style, do you accelerate briskly at every opportunity?
If yes then that's not "too bad".
On longer trips and taking it easy you should see 24mpg I reckon.

Yeah it's London driving mostly 5 to 10 miles trips usually, just normal driving I don't accelerate briskly at every opportunity......I have a long trip coming up I'll see what I'll get...I keep it in sport mode as it does not seem to like the inteligent mode at all...not because I drive fast all the time...

I'm not complaining as I love the car just want to make sure there's no issues and it's normal it's my first Subaru and first car with over 200BHP I think it's the same engine as UK WRX's so not sure what's normal for these engines?

''ENGINE MODEL EJ20
ENGINE TYPE 4cylinder/16valves/4cycle
DISPLACEMENT 1994cc
COMPRESSION 9.0
OUTPUT 230ps(169kW)/5600rpm
TORQUE 325kg*m(3190Nm)/2800rpm''

So what was the outcome of getting it re-mapped for UK fuel??

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...why-where.html

Probably the reason it doesn't like I-mode.
... and for driving short trips in London as per Fpan, about right.

I haven't got round to do it yet , I'm hesitant as I was warned I might get even worse MPG after a re-map....so don't know if I'll do it as the car is quick enough as it is for me....

A map would probably improve everything as long as you don't abuse it you should see better mpg.

I had poor fuel consumption on an Impreza STi 6 Wagon that I used to own - took it for mapping and was advised the lambda sensor had failed. What it essentially meant was that on closed-loop (?) i.e.low revs/light throttle (I think) the ECU was chucking in extra fuel to run rich (as a safety measure) because the lambda sensor wasn't functioning. The car otherwise ran fine but once the sensor was changed I went from 18-19mpg to c.23mpg (car was running 330bhp and I did use the power). Maybe something for you to consider.
