Unplug the sensor on the front suspension on the driver side. You'll probably find the pins corroded causing a poor connection

This should really be a sticky I think. This thread and the people helped me a lot as the pins in the front connector of my hawk sensor were knackered.

If you are going to get some make sure you get the right ones, forester mounts are different. I bought both of mine from ICP.

Ok;I took the front sensor apart and it looks like centre pin of the three has snapped off;I don’t know if I snapped it pulling connector apart;I reassembled after giving it a good spray and indicator lighstayed on;I plugged my fault code reader in (OBD port)and got no fault codes;took it for another run and no warning light but I think it’s not a permanent fix;even when warning light is on my headlights are aligned;both sitting at same height;;is this the default setting???;finally is it possible to disable the system and manually set the headlights(I can see knurled nut behind headlights)and get warning light written out of the system ???

Take the govebox completely out and you will see the headlamp level control module, just un plug it and it will turn the light off then manually adjust the headlamps.

The centre pin (pin 2) which looks broken in your picture above is the output signal feed.

Was kidding myself the fault remained intermittent;probably where broken pin was making and breaking;anyway took other sound piece of advise posted on here and removed glovebox and disconnected auto level unit;I did this with headlights on and the beam didn’t drop;turned engine on/off and beams returned to same spot and no warning light;;thank you for helping me
