Default Timing belt cover

Hi. Had my bob eye wagon for about 2 months now. Cam belt was replaced back in April by dealer , I changed the oil etc today. Whilst underneath I notice the cam belt cover on the passenger side doesn’t close up and the bottom bolt isnt doing anything seems like a little piece of metal is poking out to stop the cover mating together , I took off the cover and indeed the bottom bolt doesn’t do anything and has the nut on the backside of thread still, so what this piece of metal is I’m not sure? And is it a problem with the underside of belt cover open in the area where it should tighten up with this bolt? The belt is visible through this gap which is about 2 inches long by about 1/8 of an inch wide? Hope this makes sense? Any ideas?

Any gap exposing the belt is dangerous, you may be lucky for many years, especially if running an undertray, if not, any depris could just make its way into that gap and jam the belt, i saw a thread on the US facebook subaru page and the guy had just that happen, by a chunk of ice lol !

so if you can get it sorted

I will. Looking closer I think it is the belt guide on the back case which some how is bent and stopping the front cover from seating snuggly, how this has happened I don’t know?

Yep its bent and the captive nut must still be on the end of the bolt as it's now missing. You could if needs be straighten that for the time being until you get another one that would at least let the cover close up. Be careful there's sufficient clearance for the belt so it does'nt rub.

Yeah the nut is on the end of the thread, will bend it back into shape and as you say then the case can close up again.... bit of a hassle changing that back casing, too much to remove.. there is plenty of distance from the belt so might repair it araldite the nut back in its place. Something like that?..
