Default Broken Power Window Switch

Hi everyone,

I have broken drivers window switch on my 2005 Impreza WRX, when it was in the down position and am desperate for a quick fix before the snow comes tonight. I have a semi waterproof cover on the car but it is not keeping the damp out.

Is there a way i can wire one of the other switches to get the window up? does anyone know quick fix to do temporarily to do me until i find a switch. or does someone have a wiring diagram for it

Based in Northern Ireland so not many scrappies about to cater for me.

Enjoy the snow everyone and keep her out of the hedges.

Try to check with a multimeter if it is actually the switch. I thought my switch had broken (luckily with the window up) and it was actually the motor.

Alternative is maybe you can loosen the regulator assembly and window motor and manually slide the window up before tightening all up again?

Its definitely a broken switch, as it feels looser than before.

I was thinking a quicker fix if possible was to swap the cables for one of the other window switched just to get it to up position.

Snow is pelting it down here.

The other door switches have different shaped plugs so cannot be used in place of the main switch.
One option is to connect the power supply and return to the motor connectors at the main plug for up motion (pin 12 to 6 and 7 to 1) as marked on the wiring diagram.
or connect 12v + and - directly to the motor pins 6 (+) & 7(-)

open the switch up, pop the rocker part out, and you will see the contacts, they are like metal rockers, you may find it burnt contacts that will clean up, if not it may allow you to just force the switch to work,
this is what the internals look like.

Hi all,

I took apart the window control module and the rocker switch looked mechanically sound. I couldn't fully disassemble the board holding the relays and its casing but the slider switch seemed ok and i could hear the relay clicking.

i'm assuming then its the motor. Wish this snow would go off so i could get a proper look as the interior is soaking wet now.

Teach me for buying a (and i use the term very loosely) WATERPROOF cover off Ebay!!

Absolute nightmare.
Slider switch that control drivers window seems to be working ok.
