hi guys whats the best way to tell if an engine is a wrx sti,Looking at a car and codes on vin come back to a sti engine but engine was replaced few years back seller unsure what engine was put in,manifold is black not red.
Any help appreciated

By black do you mean black plastic or painted black?
its been off at some point then, you'll be able to get the engine code off the block, but no way to know whats in it im afraid.
Could try pulling a plug and putting an endoscope down to look at the piston profile, see if it looks stock or not, but not really gonna tel you much more that you already know.
