there would be a fair bit of work involved... unless you weld a right angle onto the front of the turbo... or you could keep the td04 front entry and raise the inlet manifold to pass the hose underneath but you would loose your pwr steering... for the cost I would just get a hybrid...

When you say front, i take it you mean the entry point of the
up-pipe(exhaust)?? Cause if you meant the 90deg bit which sucks in the air, surely a nice samco hose would do the job wouldnt it??

Thats what I meant yeah... sorry suppose you could use samco hose, but be carefull it doesnt suck it flat... yeah you could do it then... you wouldnt have to weld it really i suppose either... you could secure it with three bolts like Andy.F has done with his.. (td05 though)

But why would you want to do this? TD-04 runs out of puff much earlier than the 05 - most people would just modify their 05 for straight entry...and be very happy!
Also not sure how the OE ecu would cope with such a swap, most of the time you replace smaller with bigger. Be careful!

I want to change for a smaller turbo to gain more torque at lower rpm's, i need to re-visit Power en. for a tweak to my phase 1 anyway.
Last time @ PE got 279 bhp & 265 lb/ft (TD05) & Mervyn reckons a TD05 should be good for the same power but about 290lb/ft @ 3k which would be very nice.

Fair enough - I'd still try a td-04 car to see whether the top end limitation is OK for you - even though I rarely go above 6k rpm, I've just junked my 04 for a VF23

Stick with the TD05 ... one of the best turbos fitted to a Scoob and not an IHI VF series either. No reason at all why you can't improve the spool up with judicious placement of the odd restrictor (or two) Had one on my Wagon, never even considerd changing it, tough as they come and no problem getting it to spool, almost instant boost ... ask my son who ended up wearing a neck brace after I took him out in it once it was really flying.

I have a TD04 from my jdm '94 WRX wagon. I put a '94 WRX TD05 on the car. I need to swap the TD04 back on very soon, as I'm getting the TD05-16G compressor upgraded to an 18G, but after that I have no use for the TD04, and I'll be taking offers for it! =)

ZERO modification involved, it was a direct swap, as the TD04 was the stock turbo on the jdm '94 WRX wagon, and it swaps with other early WRX TD05's.
If you are interested in my TD04, I would swap it back on now, and do my turbo upgrade now. Otherwise, I was going to wait until later in the summer. Let me know, I'm bringing my car into Rallispec tomorrow for a TMIC upgrade, and I could easily have them swap the TD04 back in, and send the TD05 out for its new compressor wheel, and have it back in a jiffy so I can post you the TD04.

Andy, that is simply unbelieveable!!! I wish I better understood exactly what you've done, as I have full boost (a mere 16 psi in my case) by 3300 RPM, and you're getting 20 psi by 2500!!! Un-stinkin-believable!

Hmmm.. whats an AP22... Is that one of those in car meters??
I thought the map sensor would only cope with 16psi or are you running a fuel cut defender....
Right then... Im need to get on with this....
You off to york on sat?

Yea G force meter which calculates power. Supply it with the cars weight, rolling resistance and drag coefficient and it gives you a power curve of 'at the wheels' output. Found it matched the rolling road to within 2 bhp when I recorded the 349 previously.
Also was within 0.1 seconds and 2 mph of my 1.4 mile dragstrip times.
Yes I have a FCD, pneumatic relief valve.
I'm going to a place called Altofts J31 M62 anywhere near U ?
