Default Throttle position sensor, maybe

Hi all,

Not the most dramatic problem in the world but... Car started by hunting a bit on idle. Then started going up to 2 k with no pressing of accelerator. Phoned aa. Guy came out and cleaned the throttle body and iacv. I can't remember the fault code but I've asked the Aa for a copy of the report. Cleaning hasn't helped. He suggested changing the throttle position sensor as his diagnostic showed it responding very sluggishly when engine was on although it was better when the engine was off.

Whilst I wait for the report I was planning on ordering a new throttle position sensor but they seem to be pretty pricey. Just get on with it or has anyone got any better ideas? He mentioned the stepper motor in his report. Do we think he meant the iacv?

In the long term, I'd like to be able to read fault codes myself. Is it best to get a cable and laptop or look for a fault reader online?

Thanks in advance.
