Coolant leak around Thermostat- Any idea?
Hi all,
I've been hunting down issues with my EJ20 Impreza Wagon WRX today, fixed an oil leak from the oil cooler o ring and I've just found two more leaks.
So, first and the most pressing issue is a coolant leak, which looks like it's coming from around the thermostat or above it?

I can't see a direct source, though it looks like it's been an issue for the previous owner (i've had it since saturday) and they've wound a jubilee clip round it in an attempt to stop it dripping. It hasn't worked and the coolant seems to be coming from above. I've looked topside of the block and can't see where it would be coming from.
Looks like a pig of a job whatever it is causing it.
Any ideas?
Second is an oil leak but I'll do a seperate thread for that.
Thanks in advance.

Could be the steel pipework running behind the cambelt cover & its various rubber connections under the inlet manifold, or the water pump seal tell tale hole.

I don't think it's the clip, it was on there from the PO, I only picked it up Saturday so it looks like it's had this problem for a little while.
From my research it's pointing toward the water pump gasket leaking so if the weather holds out tomorrow I'll be pulling the cambelt covers off and having a good look at whats going on. If I'm lucky I'll tighten the pump, but looks like it's going to be a new one if it's on its way or the gasket needs changing.
PO had the belt done but changed nothing else, no pump, no bearings, no pulleys. (great!) If it comes to it I'll change the lot. Needs a clutch in it too damnit!

Water pump.....had the same go on mine and after replacing it's solved the issue. Easy enough job to do yourself and a cam belt change while your there. I replaced my idlers too and good job ad they were ready to fall apart. But I'd go with water pump mate.
[QUOTE=parker455;11818595]I think so too, going to pull the belt cover now and have a look
