Easy enough to do, need to remove airbox to make a bit room and small hands lol make sure everything is really clean and buy the correct sealer for the end caps its not that bad of a job just fiddly with lack of room.

You can get a bit more room by undoing the pitch stop, the engine mounts and lifting the engine a little

Option 2 is the bolts can stretch so one bolt at a time put a thin washer on each bolt and tighten up but not too tight

Thats a bodge and asking for a stripped thread, the gasket goes brittle with heat from uppipe and turbo, buy a decent gasket kit with new bolt gaskets too, done correctly it wont leak again for a long time.

the hardest part is sealing them correctly and the proper torque settings for the eyelets for the bolts.

It was all done by the book , and by a Person who knows scoobys , it was the only option other than start again and see what happened , it was not over tightened we believe the bolts were the problem being slightly too long or a machining issue but a very easy fix and all sorted afterwards , it had been an on going issue for a while with me and previous owner , it was a jdm wrx wagon I think it was an 94 plate , an auto but still a great car

Best way is to buy all new bolts, bolt seals, and gaskets including spark plug ones and half moons.
It is a tricky job if you've never worked on a subaru before. You need the smallest socket set you can get and a small 10mm spanner.
Lots of rags and some good sealer for the small areas that subaru specify that you put it on.theres a workshop manual picture somewhere of where to put a small smearing of sealer.
Also when you do change it Its very easy to think it's leaking because oil spills onto the exhaust and into the exhaust heatshield
It takes forever to burn off and your none the wiser if you've sorted the leak.
I learnt the hard way.ha ha

Did mine, by the book, all cleaned up with new bits and the expensive sealant, and it started leaking again after a few hundred miles. The half moon seals are a nightmare but as it's a small leak I can live with it.
