So I bought an impreza recently, stupidly never tried it out from cold but first cold start flooded the car, turns out unless you start it with blipping the throttle it doesn't start, from hot it is fine.
The car runs massively rich on cold start, not too bad when warm.
The car has bigger injectors but using the standard reg etc and an alcatek ecu.
Is it likely mapping still which is my thoughts or should I look at any other likely culprits

Has anything been changed on the car before you bought it? Sounds like a map issue... this try n find out what parts were on when previously mapped and if they're still on now

I know who has mapped the car, it's supposed to have been looked at again, looks like it's going to have to go to him again before trying someone else

How massively rich? What's the AFR reading when cold on idle?

I haven't got afr readings but it's chucking it out the back, you can smell it, going to have to get it checked out

Had similar before too after my oem ecu was mapped would always try and cut out cold and if it died it would flood and fail to start, need the mapping sorted.

Ask your mapper to reduce cold start/crank fuel and see if this improve your cold start. Works on mine.

I was told never blip the throttle on start, all it gives you are wet spark plugs.
The fact you have to touch the throttle at start is the first thing to sort out.

Out of interest,do you have to blip the throttle after its actually started as it feels like it's going to stall,or are you having to blip it before you turn the key?
Mine is the former,runs fine when started tho and cold start tick over is around 13.5AFR for a couple of minutes.
Be interested to find out how you get on with the mapper as there might be something I can do to improve my cold start.

when you turn the key to start does the fuel system prime OK ?
typically you would hear the fuel pump whirl for a few seconds.

Is it possible that a sticky throttle plate or dirty throttle body could cause these symptoms?
Or maybe a bad gasket on the IACV?
Maybe a worn injector seal leaking slightly?
Or would any of these things show as a problem when the car is warm as well?
Have you booked it in with the mapper? Who you using if you don't mind me asking?
