2001 Exhaust backbox compatability
Just acquired my first Subaru, only a 2001 1.6 but i'm still pretty stoked about it. Always wanted one and now i live in the countryside i have a good excuse to get an AWD.
I was hoping to replace the exhaust backbox (as its rusted up) with this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2718589117...34cb0ab3f&cp=1
2001 WRX exhaust back box.
Will that work or not? Planning on giving a dealer spares a ring but thought id check here too.
Cheers
Rich

Hello and welcome to Subaru ownership,
The exhaust in the listing won't fit as it's a 2.5 inch and the max you will have us a 2.25 inch system (if it's standard).
If you want to modify your Impreza then the best mods for your car would be improved front brakes - bigger calipers and corresponding sized disks and better pads (Kevlar fast road pad, Mintex 1144, etc).
If the exhaust is really rusted and about to fall off you may have to enquire about a new one from your local dealer or maybe a bespoke system from the likes of Powerflow. If you want to stay with a Subaru exhaust then you would need a centre section from a wrx to fit the rear box listed in your original post - not forgetting the ring gasket that connects the centre section to the second CAT section.
I have a set of 2 piston calipers with the correct size disks that came off my 2006 R Sport - I'm not sure if they would fit your Bugeye 1.6 (I would have thought so but not 100% sure).
I hope this helps.
Andy

Thanks for that Andy. I was kind of hoping to just replace the backbox because it's looks pretty rusty. It's not falling apart though and MOT is Aug so could just wait to see what happens there and try and source one as cheaply as reasonably possible in the meantime. Guess there's no adapter gasket to expand the entry bore from 2.25 to 2.5. As I say I'm new to this level of car maintenance so learning as I go.
My brakes are a little squeky at times so proba could do with replacing?!

Would involve welding to a connecting mount? If that's possible.
Maybe this would fit?

I know the 1.6 AWD is a bit slow and heavy and I'm not about to try and make it sound like an WRX! I just wanted a AWD car as I live in the sticks. Plus it's a good car for me to learn how to service/maintain on. Will upgrade to a proper scooby one day! Cheers

Thanks Andy. I asked the seller to measure it and it's 2.25 entry apparently. I won the auction for £2.50 anyway so no big thing if it doesn't fit.
Just spent the best part of today looking for the transmission dipstick! Well hidden!
