Default Hooray...!!! Cracked it at last....

So today I finally worked out the wiring for a JDM rear wiper.

It now wipes and returns to the rest position automatically when the wiper is switched off.

I was unable to get hold of a JDM wiring diagram but managed to work it out using a USDM diagram from a Legacy...

Just need to make a loom to run to the front of the car and install the stalks on the steering column. These too need to be re-wired.

All i need now is a 5 pin relay socket to be nice and tidy.

Today was a good day

The next big job is the stalks on the steering column as they are on the opposite side and all the wire would have to be re-pinned as they are also not in the same place.

However

Doing a little research over the last 1/2 hour has turned up that the SUBARU LEGACY WIPER STALK is on the right of the column and has the rear wash wiper controls.

So it maybe that I can just swap the one arm and not have the confusion and getting used to every thing on the other side.

£12 on the eBay for one, so has to be worth a punt for that price.

It should be here next week so all will be revealed..........

Strangely, I have recently bought some JDM stalks for my Legacy gen IV so that I can put the lights on the right and the wipers on the left (like they should be).

I have found that the wiper stalk has the same plug but different wiring and the llight stalk plug is a mirror image so the plug won't even fit !!

I could cut and rejoin the wires for the wipers but I am not sure what to do about the lights yet. One option would be to solder a different type of multi-pin plug onto the stalk and change the plug on the harness (gulp).

I don't know if this will work:

I just had a thought, maybe me and Cpt Jack could exchange connectors, that is if the Impreza one is the same as the Legacy one. We are both in Bedforsdhire as well.

I thought you might have meant Capt Jack's diagrams.

I found this as well

Doesn't work with Firefox but Opera works.

Initial review shows it to be slightly straighter, that's not a problem

Everything else looks the same

Tonight, I mocked up a basic loom for testing.

For the first time I wiper the rear window using the stalk switch

Tomorrow I will make the final loom.

So you've fitted a JDM rear wiper to a UK WRX?

What's been your total outlay?

Mine was £250 plus a relay and some cable. It all came as a "kit" from Grade A, screen, wiper motor and arm, washer bottle and pump and even the stalk.

And my mate fitted the screen for nowt.

£40 All 3 tinted rears and the wiper mechanism
£60 to have the rear screen fitted
£12 for wiper stalk
£00 wires and connects as all in the tool kit.

so £112 all in, plus my time lol

as for the washer bottle I'm going to use an intercooler spray bottle set up in the boot, £40 ish

Great stuff mate.

Yes all mine declared too, not worth not doing it.

Well that's it, I'm just back in from the garage and it's all done and working. Complete new loom created from stalk to wiper.

Project done, what's next

a) folding mirrors
b) spec C roof vent
c) open to suggestion
