They are going to take it for the day and sort it tomorrow.
Plugs are 6 months old, air filter replaced last week.
so Lambda, leak will be prime suspects....

What was the oil temeprature? It "should" be measured for the MOT test (although can be bypassed).
Has it had an Italian tune up immediately before the test? Or was it just left idling to get up to temeprature?
The latter will gaurantee a fail on a scoob.

It had a 50 mile run before the test, but then had to wait 1/2 hour before emmisions test so had cooled down alot
As the Lambda reading is good, I'd look at possible cat failure. However first I'd try some fresh VPower followed by a damn good thrashing with emissions tested immediately after, without standing for half an hour.
Cat isn't hot enough, Noticed on the 2nd fast idle it had come down a touch. cats getting hotter. the cat is likely to be a little less efficient over the years, or it just stood to long
I've put a car through the mot before with a barely warmed cat, 95 fuel etc. that on its own doesn't usually lead to the car being quite a bit over the thresholds. To fail emissions, there is usually something more physical like a split vac pipe/loose from solenoid etc or in the occasional case a dud sensor.
