Default Removing and Refitting Injectors - Tips

Hi All,

I've had a spare set of injectors ultrasonically cleaned (380cc greys) for my 1993 WRX, so now looking to replace the originals with these.

Can anyone offer any tips for removal/refitting? I've heard they can be a bit of a nightmare to get out..

I know to put a little engine oil on the seals, but thats about it, so any tips would be appreciated!

Any ideas? I assume it can be done without removing the fuel rail..

They will probably require pulling out with pliers. But you need to be careful not to damage the plastic. You need to use new o rings as a leak can flood the engine and kill it. If you remove the rails you need to replace the seals underneath.... That's about it.

Thanks FMJ,

would you say lubricating the seals with engine oil is OK? Also should this just be done very lightly or more like what you do an oil filter seal? Assuming is both top and bottom seals need lubing.

Is it worth twisting them to try and break the seal on in the rail or just pull them straight up with pliers?

Its been a while since I changed a set on a v2, if I recall correctly ... They are a bit stiff to get out and took a fair amount of wiggle to get them moving, I would try back and forth and side to side movement first before twisting. I wouldnt use pliers either unless its the last resort, I wouldnt want to risk breaking the plastic. Make sure all the O rings come out with the old injectors.
I lubed the new O rings with petroleum jelly on refit, I haven't had any issues yet.

Cheers Edsel,

I'll do as you say in terms of trying to get them moving! I'm not too worried about the plastic as not a major issue if the old ones break, but would rather avoid if poss so i'll try without pliers first!

I've got a new set of injector seals on the way from AS Performance so sorted there. I don't have any petroleum jelly so will stick to engine oil!

How easy is it to get the new ones back in? Assuming they seat fairly easily?

Cheers!
