What's best atmospheric or recirc??

At the moment my car has an atmospheric DV fitted and there is a pipe with a bung in. Whats the pipe with a bung in for?

 

Blanking where the recirc would be.

Most will say recirculating is best as that's what your ecu is mapped to.

If you want vent to atmosphere your best getting your engine remapped, as believe it messes with fuelling and people say on here it causes bore wash.

 

 

Genuine HKS SSQV. Will cost you £200+ but will work properly, not leak and last years. I believe turbo smart are also highly regarded. Anything else I would chuck in the bin.

When I say genuine SSQV I mean avoid any ebay ones, any second hand ones etc. The market is full of good copies that leak, fall apart and cause issues.

If you can't afford one then put a recirc back on. Yes ideally the car should be mapped. But mine was on a good time before my map and caused no issues and has now been on for seven years still no issues.

Possibly, but have you ran a decent quality one with a remap? If so there should be no issue at all. A crap valve will leak and cause issues, or an unmapped one may run a bit off due to a loss of air from the system but once that is mapped out there is no reason it should run worse at all.

In my own experience (Ownership since 2006 with a HKS SSQV 2 unmapped and mapped) there have been zero issues.

I only bring this up as there are a lot of default answers on this forum people go to due to current trends. DV's are not general liked on here so it's a no no and people will say anything to back up their dim view on them, most without any real experience or just because they ran a crap baileys and it fell apart.

Yes they sound chavy. But sorry to burst anyones bubble the Impreza is a chavy looking car. There are of course extremes that should be burnt.

Can a mapper actually map out the air lost? wouldn't every throttle release let out a different amount of air depending on throttle position??

this is true, but you can minimise the impact by playing with the timing and fuelling - it's not ideal. The only true way is to be mafless but you can get away with a high quality unit that opens under high boost not under low/mid throttle. The SSQV mentioned and the baileys DV12 both do a decent job.
