Default scoobyworld kinugawa turbo?

Hi I've recently bought a Kinugawa turbo from scoobyworld which they say is specially manufactured for them. Sadly it failed within a few miles has anyone else had this problem? I sent it to AET to be tested and they said that it was due to the oil banjo bolt being too small that was supplied but scoobyworld have said the factory said that they are the right size. Now they say my oil pump may be going but my mechanic is a adamant that the is nothing wrong with the car and if AET fix the turbo there will be no further problems. If anyone could give me some input it would be much appreciated. Thanks

There's been mixed reviews on these turbos mate some have ran there's for a good bit with no problems but some unfortunately have had the same problems as you, dealing directly with kinugawa are meant to be a nightmare so I hope you have better luck with scoobyworld if they are selling them then they need to deal with the problems, if you search kinugawa you'll see a few threads on them, hope you get it sorted

From a legal perspective if there is a problem with the turbo you purchased then you need take it up with Scoobyworld themselves.

Your contract in law is with Scoobyworld and not the manufacturer, I know that FP Turbo supply two banjo unions (or used to anyway) with their FP Green turbo units, I think it was due to differing sizes on the oil supply hoses.

I would be taking the matter up with Scoobyworld, and don't let them fob you off either saying that the problem is with the manufacturer and you should deal with them directly.

The oil pump failing sounds like complete BS to me.

If the pump was flowing so little that it didn't push enough oil through the turbo, your crank shaft bearings (etc) would have been goosed a long time ago.

Thanks for all the replies! Yes I took it up with scoobyworld right away and so did my mechanic. They said they would need to check it but my mechanic said do not under any circumstances send it to them and send it to an independent turbo specialist so I don't get shafted so easy as the same happened to a friend of his and they said it was his fault right away and there was no way of him knowing if it was true. Scooby world said I could send it to an independent specialist but now AET have checked it over scoobyworld are saying what they have said isn't right. It's going to cost me the guts of £600 to fix and modify it to work properly. I trust my mechanic 100% ad I have known him for many years and seen some of the cars etc.

They say that this turbo is specially manufactured for scoobyworld as does another site where the mechanics friends turbo failed. I have compared both turbos and they are identical. When I search for these turbos with kinugawa online I can't find anything about them only a completely different looking turbo. It's just turned into a game of tennis on the phone getting no where. Very frustrating

Good luck getting anywhere with scoobyworld. I enquired about a few things a couple of years ago and wasn't very impressed with the woman I spoke to. ( Didn't seem to give a toss whether they got my business or not) Maybe I got someone on a bad day? Plus they aren't the cheapest to say the least. Hope you sort it either way.

Scoobyworld are up their own *****, had a problem recently with them over a part purchased and they gave me deaf ears! Won't be going back there again in a hurry. The turbo sounds like junk I'm sorry to say, if you have purchased through a credit card I would be doing a charge back in faulty goods. The turbo should have a warranty on it anyhows

Luke

We only received the images from AET turbos today of the failed turbo, up until then we only had a verbal description of the issue and with no opportunity to examine the turbo itself.

We've passed all of the images to the factory now and awaiting their reply.

We are not in any way washing our hands of this - you purchased the product from us and we will resolve this for you, and this is in process, as we've already stated to you on the phone.

As soon as we've had some information back from the factory I'll let you know, which should be Monday. Finding the exact cause of the failure may be difficult, however if Kinugawa will not show some goodwill in this situation, we will cover the original purchase cost of the turbo ourselves and return it to them.

Hope that makes it clear for now

regards

Neil

Thanks for your reply that sounds a bit more promising sadly as it has been near 2 weeks this has happened and more than a couple of days since I have heard anything further I have had to instruct my mechanic to have the turbo fixed which is costing extra including the fitting of another turbo. I hope this can be resolved but I hope you can also see what situation I am in as I'm having to hire a car in order to get too and from work.
Thanks

Default Kinugawa turbo review

I bought a Kinugawa turbo (td05 20g with billet wheel) for my subaru last summer (direct from Kinugawa not from Scoobyworld) and was very very disappointed with it, it made hardly any boost what so ever and I made nearly as much power from my standard vf43 turbo, even my engine mapper was totally surprised on its poor performance, Kinagawa stated it was a 400bhp turbo unit but made no where near that on my 2.5 hawkeye STI. I'm not saying its the same as the one from scoobyworld but just thought I would share my experiance with a Kinugawa turbo ...

Did you find out exactly what caused the turbo to fail? Was it due to an incorrect size banjo bolt? I'm just affraid mine will have the same problem at some point...

Hi, AET said it was the banjo bolt was too small but Kinugawa denied this. AET fixed the turbo and has been on for around a month now without any problems. Luckily scoobyworld paid the repair costs as a "good will gesture" good luck with yours I hope you don't have the same problem as it seems I may have been luckier than a lot of others

True, but I didn't think this was some eBay turbo as it was from somewhere that sells multiple things for Subarus.

I don't recall ever hearing anything good about these turbos in my 9 years on Scoobynet.
