Default STi intercooler on a WRX Hawk worth it?

Hi all,

Done a fair few mods last year and done only minor things this year, need a modding fix lol.
Been thinking about changing my Hawk WRX intercooler to an STi one, given the price they go for I wondered if it was worth while upgrade?

At present it has Silicone Y pipe, Pro-R air filter, VF28 turbo, 2nd cat removed, straight through centre pipe, Scorpion back box and a HRC 255 fuel pump. (still on stock downpipe cat)

It made 316bhp and 350lb/ft torque when mapped by Duncan at RaceDynamix just before xmas.

Would it be worth while or just wasting money? also will the map need tweaking to accommodate it?

cheers,

had one on my hawk, struggled with temps at 390bhp, its more the turbo thats limiting you. Can't see it hurting but prob wont make much differecne.

As far as map tweak, untill its on you wont know

Cheers for reply Tidgy,
I have read a few posts on here and other forums of the VF28 making over the 350bhp mark on the 2.5 engine. I was just curious what I could do to liberate a few more ponies from it.

I was considering a sports cat but that will definitely need a map tweak so would make sense to do intercooler at the same time I guess?!
I was looking at the intercooler as a cheeky way to get it breathing better and not worry too much about mapping if I am honest.

Lol. How did I guess that was coming. full decat isn't on the cards I'm afraid. I cannot be bothered with the hassle come MOT time to swap it back.
Partly the reason I have stuck with the stock cat as sports cats only give a small gain for the cost.

The other aspect is that I have heard of police doing random roadside emissions checks in my area. Could well be an urban myth but I would rather not take the chance.

Watching a Prodrive sports ct on ebay at the moment. worth it or again a waste of money?

Waste of money. Just enjoy the car the way it is. For all the extra you will get and the need then for another map tweek.
