Exclamation Loss of boost in 4th gear

I lost all boost today when giving it the beans, I was in 4th and felt the turbo just drop off??? Wouldn't boost in any gear after that! I took it to my local subaru specialist who said a pipe might of come off under the tmic, anyway when I left there I had boost again in every gear!

It felt like it did it again tonight when in 4th on full boost, I slowed down and it was boosting ok! Seems very strange it only does it in 4th?

Any idea.

What model of car is it? I've read some stuff about neutral position sensors causing trouble, maybe give that a search.

It's a 2005 WRX with an 05 G8 STI forged engine conversion. Engine has only done 600 miles.

That could mean 120 bots/crawlers have viewed the thread, not real people.
I have no idea about your boost problem though, sorry.

Sounds like there's been a lot of work done. Who did it? If it wasn't you, take it to them for diagnosis.

It was done by HDC Subaru in West Yorkshire, I live in Co Durham.

Guys I spoke to HDC but he said the turbo has nothing to do with him and that the car already had mods done before he done the rebuild. I've done some searching about and think it might be the boost solenoid ? Could it be this do you think???

It will boost fine in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears but 4th and 5th there's no boost!

who mapped it for you, did they use any per gear wastegate control? Do you have anyone nearby that could datalog the car for you?

The boost solenoid would be used in every gear to make boost so if it's holding fine in 3rd it should be the same in 4th. If you can datalog the car you might see something strange that would help you diagnose it.

You can test the BCS by removing it and just applying 12v across the terminals you'll hear it click, might as well get some carb/brake cleaner in there and give it a clean out whilst it's off the car.

There are lots of things it could be so you would need someone to run some diagnostics on the car for you.

you have a vag com lead even to do some diagnostic? If you can make a log file we could help you spot something odd maybe

OK - something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-USB-CO...item259d2c37cb

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-GROUP-...item259df29f53

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-GROUP-...item3f1b0d351a

normally the 5 quid ones will take forever to arrive, the 10 quids you can usually get next day as they are already in the UK. Using a vag com lead and the free romraider logger software you'll be able to datalog your car and see what's happening with it. if you get the cable and need walked through setting it up on your laptop i'm happy to help you out.

Those cables are for cars from 1994 to 2004 and it doesn't list subaru? My car is a 2005 model.

yes thats right its for programming VW cars, but it allows you to datalog on subaru's. you can't write the rom but you can read diagnostic data from it.

i've used one on my own bug and a few others (newest was a 2.5 Hawk STI) so it does work for datalogging.
