It's ok, I think I'm going to pass on it as it looks like it's been detting and been hot at some point by a friend that's just informed me of.

Looking at the crosshatching, the bores are worn. So at the very least it'll need re-honing and a new set of rings.

Does the piston look marked on the edge too?
I can see vertical marks on the bore. So it has detted? And is a fubbard block

Hard to say on the pistons, but looking at the bottom picture, at the top right there appears to be some pitting on the piston.

I says it hard to say, as that piston looks "too clean", i.e has someone cleaned it, or has water/steam been getting in there (head gasket) as steam cleans off the carbon, as does hot running. The scores on the bore will need honing at the very least - depends on how deep.

As said, rings and re-hone bare minimum, probably a piston, or two. By default I'd split the block to check out the rest - I always fully strip every second hand sourced engine that I intend on lasting. Maybe I'm unlucky, but almost every second hand engine I've bought has had something wrong/worn when I've stripped it down to inspect it.

Thanks Ali, it hasn't been cleaned afaik, but the crowns have now since I pionted out det/hot.
Apparently, it had a burnt valve in the head? And apparently the bock has had a new crank 12k ago for some reason? So got knows.

I wonder if I can get it cheap enough and get it refreshed depending on cost todo so?
