Default '97 legacy turbo question

Hi all I am a prospective legacy owner. The car in question is a '97 import legacy twin turbo. The car has blown a turbo. My question is this, do I have to fit like for like or can I fit a bigger turbo. Now before you guys start asking me technical questions or abusing me I should let you know, I know nothing about this stuff. This would be my first scooby and my first tubby. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Fit like for like would be my advice, it's a sequential set up and if you replaced one of the turbos with a larger one it would probably knock out the overlap even more than Subaru managed to do themselves (Google Subaru, valley of death). My GTB had a noticeable VOD and it was safest to drop 2 gears when overtaking to make sure you weren't caught between the two turbos.
However, on full chat when the 2nd turbo cuts in its off, the 3rd gear acceleration from about 75 to 110 is nuts, probably quicker than my 330 bhp sti3.

Would there be no benefit of fitting the 24 as the primary and the 20 as secondary? It the auto gtb I'm looking at.
