Default Sleeving a 2.5 scdb?

Hi,

Just a quick question.

I know the 2.5 scdb are only good for around 450/450. Heard alot of people going down the cdb route or sleeving the block?

What exactly is sleeving and how easy is it to do? Do they litterally just sit inside the bores?

Cheers Jamie

http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Dart...on-Dry-Sleeves

It is nutoriously unreliable unless you have machine shop that know what they are doing.

ATM my block is on the way to ASperformance for CDB inserts and 14mm head studs (with right parts it can handle 600/600)......that costs 450£ (for cdb conversion) which seems like only resonable thing to do with ej257.

Hi mate,

Thanks ive heard a few have it never reallt knew what it was! Thats not bad price is that with head studs supplied? And did you have a spare block or something? Or is your car in for a rebuild? May be an option for me.

Cheers Jamie

As i am from Slovenia my block casings will be shipped there and back.
450 is fir cdb conversion, add 250 for 14mm headstuds and 90 for block machining +VAT......so all in around 900£.

I am also moving to first oversize pistons-99,75mm as is recomanded after cdb inserts.

This is a cdb with 100mm bore liners/sleeves/inserts (whatever you want to call them) there is alot of material supporting them. There will be less material supporting them with a scdb which would mean that there is more chance of them moving/distorting/deforming under high boost

There is a reason why many have bought the T-Shirt and thrown it away on this one.

I'm not aware of any established Subaru tuner that touches liners anymore.

Hi Jamie

Something like sleeving I would stay clear of that,I've heard few stories about the sleeve dropping, agree in US they're have better experience, but shipping etc will cost you

If you are thinking go above certain bhp, then I would speak with Alyn@AS Performance about the CDB insert plus 14mm headstuds, second option is pinning the block,I think Daz davies has run with great success on his car for several years at 600bhp

Pinning the block can be the cheaper option, but CDB insert is probably what I would choose

Thanks,Jura

Yes it is
At least a grand by the time you've got the sleeves and had all the machining work done to fit them, deck it, bore it, fit ej25 crank, 14mm headstuds etc

Sorry but I'm sure some people call sleeves inserts. In the Subaru community inserts are those things that fill the hole in odb's and scdb's.

Much like referring the exhaust manifolds as headers.

Because they weren't fitted correctly?!
Which ones suffered failures?
Who built the ones that failed and the ones that lasted?
Are there many people around with them still going?

I'm giving it a shot because I think it's worth it as long as everything is done properly there shouldn't be any issues... In theory!

Nearly all the top UK Subaru tuners have tried sleeving blocks, and that includes sleeves with top hats to apparently stop them dropping. Ask yourself why none of these tuners use this method any more.

They don't all drop, but it appeared to be a case of more often than not.

Liners dropping is nothing new and is something that happens in other marque engines, modified and OEM.

Hi jamie , I am running a sleeved block in my hawkeye ! Running 528 bhp at around 1.8 bar running 25 percent meth ! No issues so far and understand my block was built and ran in then stripped again ! Got it at the right price and all is good ! Cossie gaskets blah blah blah , 14 mm studs ! If I had the choice I would buy a block and send it to alyn at as and deck it !

Cheers maz

Just looking at other options at the moment. As wanting 450/450 with a md321t which is acheivable at 1.6 bar. Which my current block should be fine with
