Making my STI more commuter friendly...
Yes, this wont be the most manly of posts but sod it.
The handling on my Scoob is terrific, a real credit to the previous owner and on the right road it feels un-catchable. Its had poly bushes throughout, ARBs front and rear, anti lift kit and BCs mid range coils, its also riding on 18" PFF7s.
As good as this is on the right road its a nightmare around sheffield and on my 40 mile commute so I was looking at ways of softening the ride up. Coils are on thier softest setting and tyre pressures are all as they should be.
I'm reluctant to remove the coilovers as replacing them with standards just sounds like i'm re-introducing the potential for knocking rears.
My train of thought is to swap the wheels for 17s and increase the tyre from 40 to 45 - will this make much of a difference?
Any other suggestions welcome (unless its MTFU :-) )

You could make enquiries of Bren at Apex who sell BCs and see if there is a softer spring combination available.
Switching to higher aspect ratio tyres will also help soften the ride. Essentially you're putting approx 12% more rubber in the sidewalls so they will be more flexible, although this doesn't mean you'll necessarily get a 10% reduction in harshness.

Agree about the Sheffield roads mate. Removed the coilovers from my type r and fitted refurbed P1 suspension with grease nipple mod and find these firm too. I have 215/45/17 rubber but also run the oe 16" rims as I run oe brakes. The 16" drive is superb and the car feels generally better but a little looser.
I run snake pass and the roads around the strines. The coilovers were simply dangerous on these roads. I had Leda b's with 24 point adjustment set to 6 front and 4 rear. Still too harsh.

The car came with two brand new, unfitted springs in the boot that say '5kg' on the packet - would these be softer than the standards?
Really like the standard STI multispokes, just need to find someone that wants PFFs now!
