Default STI Up pipe query

Hi guys

I've literally just received an STI up pipe that I plan to fit to my WRX but was wondering, is it better practice to remove the heat shield and heat wrap or is the shield efficient enough?

Also...when I come to fit, what do I do with the sensor?? I will have the car mapped so the software for the up pipe sensor will be deactivated

Cheers

If the heat shields are all in good condition I would advise leaving them fitted.
Disconnect the sensor, it will give you a cel which can be disabled once mapped. If you want to avoid the cel put a 2.2k ohm resistor across the two pins on the car side plug. This simulates a normal EGT resistance.

They are in fairly good nick to be honest, one of the welds has gone so it is free moving on the pipe which I think may rattle a little, still worth keeping?

Can I disconnect and remove the sensor completely?

If the uppipe welds are gone either reweld or remove the shields they will rattle. Other option which would be cheaper than wrap is buy another one from as new an STI as possible.

Sensor is completely removed, there should be no boss on the STI one enayway so unplug it and toss in the bin, then either leave the plug or fit the resisitor. Its best to bag the plug and tyewrap out the way to stop water getting into the plug.
