May also need to swap the loom over. Was reading a thread the other day where someone had a few running issues that were only resolved with a loom swap to an STI loom.

LOL, Shreksta got there before me!

in which case the ecu you have should make a nice ornament.

If it's a complete engine does it include the avcs heads? As you'll need to have the loom to control these too.

Using an sti ecu. If you can get one with keys etc means your better going to an sti inlet to loose the tumblers in the wrx inlet manifold as these are ecu controlled.

Are you doing it yourself or having a garage do it for you?

Yes did it about 4/5 years ago, shouldnt need an engine loom if its just an engine swap...Your loom will be fine, Only difference being the AVCS heads but as its a full engine including inlet manifold you utilise the wires that control the TGV`s on the bug loom and reposition them at the ECU end for the sti ecu to pick up...From memory there was an additional 4 wires added...Or like stated speak to Tim....Your sti ECU will be fine for recoding to the immobiliser/keys...Andrew carr has done all of the above many times

will it need to go to subaru for recoding in the new ECU with the keys and immobliser?

If you want to use the avcs heads you will need the engine loom to plug in the extra avcs cam sensors.
When I did mine I fitted the sti engine and the sti engine loom and took it to Andrew Carr. He fitted me an sti ecu and done a few wiring modifications to get the avcs working

Hello

newage STi engine into WRX is quite common. Immobiliser can be recoded as I understand it, and the only wiring missing is AVCS.

Rewire it yourself re-deploying the TGV wires, or we can do you an AVCS loom specifically for this purpose
