Default Boost Settings on WRX Blobeye

Now I don't know much about Scooby's yet but I am getting there slowly.

I have a questions about Boost Settings. My car is a 05 WRX with the PPP fitted.
Now I also have 3 gauges in the car. Oil Temp, Pressure and Boost.

I have always assumed that the car is running whatever is the standard settings for but after speaking with someone recently they said that if it goes over 0.8 then it has been mapped, mine is showing about 1.4/1.5 bar according to the Boost Gauge.

What I would like to know is the following:
  • What is the standard boost setting on a WRX?
  • Is the boost setting increased as part of the PPP kit being fitted?
  • What is a safe level of Boost for the car (assuming that it is pretty std - engine wise I think that it is std but for an STI intercooler)
  • Is there any easy way of telling how the car was mapped (sadly there is no history of it being mapped in the info I was given when I bought the car).

Thanks.

stock boost is around 13psi (0.8/0.9 bar). Part of the PPP kit is a performance tune mapped onto the car increasing boost to around 1.3 bar and it's possible the gauge reads a little over showing you 1.4/1.5 bar.

As for "safe level of boost" - your already there. However if you take it to one of the many tuners mentioned on here you'll be able to have a custom map made to measure for your car and your mods that will be as safe as you like it to be.

Around 1.3 bar sounds about right. I have a PPP to and my gauge has shown upto 1.4 bar or thereabouts.

Thanks for the clarification guys, to be honest that's plenty for me for now.

That puts my mind to rest.

The wrx ppp is only 1.1 bar. standard wrx is 0.8 bar.

1.4 bar would hit fuel cut.

So based on the above there is a chance that the car has been mapped to a higher boost setting?

The boost setting goes up to 1.4/1.5 and I have not had fuel cut as far as I know.

So how easy would it be to tell if the car has been mapped? could a mapper simply plug in and tell me or is there any other way.

My PPP showed 0.9 on AET's dyno and after a map it went to 1.0

:/

My last tuner/mapper are unsure how much boost I'm running now. Both quote differently.

So I guess there is no simple answer to this question.

Ultimately I am after reliability from the car, so want to make sure that it is not pushing a level of boost that could cause damage.

Who did the Map for you? was it done by AET too?

Sounds like a guy at the pub with a laptop mapped your car lol
