Angry PCV Valve? Update: Ringland :(

Hi All,

Noticed an issue with the car today. I removed the oil filler cap with the car running and its puffing vapor out. Revving the car increases said vapor.

I'm thinking the PCV valve may be stuck shut causing too much crankcase pressure? As revving should draw a vacuum rather than shoot more out?

Its a 2003 WRX with 75k miles and as far as I can tell its never been changed? It still runs fine, makes loads of power etc, although I did notice a screeching noise at high rpm last night again making me think PCV valve?

Cheers,

Scott

Maybe pull the PCV pipe and then try again? The PCV can be cleaned. Just take it out and spray brake cleaner in it. Give it a shake and repeat until the valve inside loosens up.

I can't get to the pipe that goes to the inlet manifold, only the one that connects to the turbo intake tube. It's puffing out of the cam breathers also.

I've read that it can be a sign of a cracked ringland also? But I thought that was only an issue on the 2.5's?

It's not using any oil or coolant.

So it's done a ringland, Cylinder #4 is 80psi.

New shortblock time! I'm going to go for 2.1 Stroker, full forged and be done with it!

Good of you to put up the outcome, but sorry to hear of the failure.
