Default Testing a speedo convertor on 96 classic

My tale of woe continues. Basically my speedo stopped working, top cable unplugged from the gearbox spins and turns the clocks so figured it was the lower part. Ordered a replacement (second hand), top and bottom cable including convertor which my exsisting one had. All connected up it still doesn't work. I disconnected the convertor and plugged it straight into the gearbox end, it worked, obv reads kmh. Now I've spoken to the breakers (not on here) who assures me it all worked as it should, mmm. I was thinking maybe the convertor is at fault, without this it seems to work. So my question, how to test the convertor?. I have a working top cable and attached it to the convertor, should the end of the convertor rotate when I work the top cable? Sorry to go on, it's driving me mad. Cheers all
