Question Classic air box

Hi folks

I have a pre-facelift classic and I am looking at doing a few things to it while its off the road I have already changed the power steering pump and reservoir to the later one (facelift classic) and I have bought the later header tank also. I am trying to source 2 more hoses (the smaller/shorter ones) to go with my 2 longer red Samco ones. Now I notice that the longer ones (top ones) go over where the airbox sits and my question is:

Do I need to buy the facelift airbox to be able to fit these hoses and header tank?

Thank you

Oh does anyone know the diameter of the 2 smaller/shorter hoses that fit the back and bottom of the facelift header tank?

No, you shouldn't need to.

I just used oem facelift ones and shortened them so they didn't droop as much.

Pipe that goes to the turbo, is the OEM early one IIRC, can't remember exactly, but, I think I may have used and OEM facelift item for the hose off the bottom off the header tank.

You need to knock up a little mounting bracket, as the spacings are different. You can see it in the pic above.

Get a little bit of 2/3mm alloy plate, and drill some holes in it.

Something like this should be more than big enough.

As a slight aside, what are you doing with your original header tank?

I know someone that may be interested in it, if it's cheap or even better free.

Well if I get around to changing it over (the metal header tank has been here for months) it was only going to live in my workshop. So if I do get rid of it you can have it for postage I suppose. But that is if though lol

Alloy is a lot easier to cut.

Ordered a sheet of aluminium. Might have gone a bit thick though at 4mm. Well see when the time comes

So Micky, does your header tank sit on the bolt underneath it or is it just hanging and the only bolts holding it in place are the ones in the mounting bracket?

Hadn't seen the thread today. Replied to your pm.

For the interest of others that may search in the future and find this thread.

My header tank is only held by the 2 mounts on the top. The lower mount didn't reach out far enough, IIRC.
