Hi All,

I've got some alloy arms with Whiteline ALK to go on my 1997 Turbo 2000, but am planning to replace the ball joints as I expect mine are past it, however I believe the alloy arms have a slightly different fitment, so which ball joints do I need?

Also I'd like to replace the droplinks, happy to go for a slight upgrade if possible, I've been looking at the Whiteline wire ones, do these fit alloy arms? If not what are my choices for a mild upgrade or good quality replacement?

The alloy arms use the same ball joints as steel ones. But they use a conical spacer between the ball joint and arm.

You need to use drop links designed for alloy arms. The alloy arms have a big bolt holding the drop link on so you need drop links with the same size bolt hole in the top and bottom. The ones for steel arms have a small hole in the lower bush.

Some drop links come with spacers that have to be used with alloy arms to get the right angle.

Fairly sure that they still don't come with the spacers needed for alloy arms. Unless you already have the spacers.

Superpro are decent enough but make sure you get the right length or I suppose in the pic in the advert that would be height.

They come in two sizes..............As I found out recently.

 

ah ok thanks, do you mean the stock STi ones came in two sizes? If so how come, was this to accommodate for different ride height levels or something? Did you get the right ones in the end?

 

You were asking about ball joints but those are drop links? What is it you actually need?

 

Yea as per title I needed info on the ball joints and droplinks.

Ball joints are sorted (going to get my specialist to supply these along with the spacers), but I'm going to get the droplinks myself so just need to make sure I get the right ones for alloy arms, hence looking at the super pro ones, as I assume these are quite close to what an STi has as standard.

 

Cool, was just making sure you didn't have things confused. Yeah they are pretty much the same style I believe.

 

Sorted in the end. They come in two lengths, 90mm and 50mm? off the top of my head, so a quick glance at yours will tell you what length you need. It's quite obvious.

Just make sure the ones you order are the same length as the old ones.

 

Ah OK cool, and which ones did you need? I'm changing my wheels tomorrow so will check then, however I'd already ordered them and they've now turned up, its the short ones I have.

I'm thinking though that the short ones must work because all the billet drop links I've seen look short, nothing like 90mm..

Anyone else got a view on this?
