Default Up pipe/turbo swop, is it as easy as it looks?

I've been having a search through a few videos explaining how to remove turbo, and I have noticed the bolts all seem to come out rather easily? Is this reality or do they snap like exhaust manifold bolts?

Looking to take this job on soon, so just testing the water.

Downpipe is a bitch.

Soak the bolts liberally in WD40 overnight, and get some impact sockets. Studs have a tendency to snap, so be prepared for that.

From the video I watched, they were nut and bolt through the turbo and down pipe rate than studs.

Are the studs on the turbo, if so if they do snap how hard are they to replace!

There's a mix, some studs, and some nuts and bolts.

Stud snaps, it'll need drilling or something to get the remnants out of the turbo.

Right pain in the **** that could turn out to be.

Literally is 2 chances mate. If the last time it was off the person refitting gunned it on like a bellend then it can be a total tit. I soaked mine in Plusgas the night before and with a good socket set it came off tidy. This is in part because the time it had been taken off before it was fitted by a good mechanic. When he had to take it off after being put back on by the previous mechanic we have to cut/drill bolts .

Got ya, I think it had a turbo fitted quite recently so hopefully they are not too bad.

Assuming they all undo successfully is it good practice to replace the studs if rusty? Or is it "if it ain't broke....."

Thanks for you help so far.

Clean them up, depends on how far they have gone, but if the thread is good just lube them up tidy If you **** the bolts though, get some proper new ones and make sure you use a nice fresh genuine gasket

I used a breaker bar on the down pipe bolts, mopst were easy apart from one at the bottom which I had to get under the car for.

The oil drain pipe is a pain too.
