Looking at replacing my front brake discs on my MY03 STi, what do people recommend?

Don't need pads, just discs.

The pads(EBC Yellow Stuff) aren't very old and have loads of life left in them, they've probably only done about 5k miles.

Braking's for losers

Seeing as the main ingredient of EBC pads is chocolate you MAY do just as well with OEM discs. I'm sure the existing pads will be fine, just that they will have worn to the shape of the old discs so will not be optimum for a few miles (thousand in your case).

Haven't had any problems with the pads so far to be honest, when I was looking for pads, the EBC Yellow stuff came highly recommended by many.

As Chris said your pads will of worn to the shape of the old discs and could take quite a while to reshape themselves.
You may have a ***** right foot when it comes to braking but the one time you need to stand on them to keep the front of the car the same shape as it is now could come before the pads are back to optimum performance . Pads are cheaper than replacing bodywork or even someone else`s. Just my opinion mate.

Hey Fozz, on my Blackberry at the mo, but will check out the further links later. Out and out the best performing OEM replacement disc/pad setup for the STI Brembos are the offerings from Performance friction.
However, brakes are very much relative to how you drive. There's no point fitting race pads/discs etc if you never get enough temperature in them for them to work.
If you can stretch to it, I'd get the genuine Brembo castings from Subaru.

You can use the existing pads on the new discs but they will need to be re bedded in. Give the pads to me and I'll resurface them for you to remove any glaze before fitting with new discs.
Your call fella, but I'd go with OEM if you can't go to the Performance friction items.

If I go this route, drilled OR grooved?

I've heard about cheaper drilled discs cracking, but would Genuine Brembo's be susceptible to this or are grooved a better/safer option?

Ive never had a car long enough to have to change them. well apart from the odd upgrade. Never used black diamond, im sure the standard spec brembo's will be fine for the work you will put at them they took some abuse on the spec C just fine.

I've gone for the Grooved Brembo's.

It's a name I know and I've been happy with the performance of the standard discs so far.

No problem re-using the pads if there is enough meat on them. I would have them taken down so they are even and fresh for the new discs.
