CAT-D write off
What EXACTLY is this?
Was loking to purchase a car in next few days, now have been told the car is a CAT-D repaired, and has starting issues (DMF) with car.
Its a 52 plate ST220, up for 4K.
I was warned off buying the car by another member on the site, and he publicly posted about the issues.
Seller not responded.......

so it is ok to be on roads then?
Dont like the idea of starting issues, DMF will cost upwards of £1000 to sort out, new clutch etc.
What is it worth if insurance has paid out on it?

DMF Duel Mass Flywheel
Mondeo's have a problem where the flywheel buckles, geting a bad juddering on clutch peddal, almost like a worn clutch.
Best to change all at same time, as flywheel alone costs upwards of £400 and can be a pain in the butt to change!
Just wondered if its still worth going for the car, and offering around £2500 - £3000 for it?

Categories Of Write-Off
An explanation of the categories of write-off are listed below:
Category A A vehicle which should have been totally crushed, including all its spare parts. Category B A vehicle from which spare parts may be salvaged, but the bodyshell should have been crushed and the car should never return to the road. Category C An extensively damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road. Category D A damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road. Category F A vehicle damaged by fire, which the insurer has decided not to repair. Theft These vehicles have not been recovered and ownership rests with the insurer who made the total loss payment. They are able to repossess the car as soon as it is identified, even if it has been bought innocently.
Taken from here Should I buy a written-off vehicle?

I had a fiesta once that was cat c. Wasn't even aware of it until I went to trade it in. It had been repaired that well. I didn't even think of doing an hpi at the time I bought it as was only £900. When I came to trade it in they offered me £100. I sold it in the end privately for £600. I contacted the CAB to see if I had to state in the advert that I now knew that it was a previous write off. At the time they said I didn't, but if asked I had to be honest otherwise i could be prosocuted. This may have changed though - be surprised if it hasn't.

*update on whats wrong with car*
the rear subframe bushes are totally shot, the front shock is making a nasty impact noise like it isnt seating right, the starter motor wheezes which makes me think it wont be very long before the whole lot needs doing.
buy it for 2.2k but then spend over double+ getting it put right and never being able to sell it on.
Posted from another person who wanted the car and done a AA check
Looks like this car is not worth much more than £1500
